TeachingConcept(self-word-world):we learn English which enlighten us in understanding different cultureswhich facilitates us for effective cross-cultural communication.
Whileself-consciousness and critical thinking are emphasized in post pedagogy, weshould teach students how to read effectively and how to write critically onthe basis of OBE(output-based education). Among all the skills, writing is anout-put skill which I emphasize in my teaching.
Atthe macro level, writing skills are developed through seventeen units in fivestages: why to write through reading; how to write briefly; how to writerhetorically; how to write concisely; how to write critically. Students willgradually appreciate the beauty of language; develop the skills of writingwords, sentences and paragraphs; and practice how to write correctly, effectively and critically.
Atthe micro level, each unit consists of three parts: sample reading, languageanalysis and writing practice. Through reading, students enrich the content schemataand formal schemata. Through appreciating the samples, students understand thegrammatical rules and language use. Through writing, students practice how towrite for effective communication.
Byinspiring students to write their own stories and guiding them to borroweffectively from reading, I intend to develop students’ writing skills. I basemy teaching practice on the following basic principles. Firstly, Theory ofMastery Learning is stressed like MOOC does in that practices are placed thesame emphasis as instructions. Secondly, reading topics are familiar andpopular among students so that they are easily motivated to write. Thirdly, language uses are instructed gradually so as that students may master thewriting of words, sentences and paragraphs step by step.
Ihope I may teach students how to learn effectively, how to think critically andhow to use English with fun.
